La Castanyada is a traditional festival that is deeply rooted in Catalonia and celebrated on the evening of 31st October and 1st November, All Saint's Day. People eat chestnuts – castanyes in Catalan –, panellets - small balls of almond paste coated in pine nuts –, sweet potatoes and other autumnal produce. You can make panellets at home or buy them in the pastry shops and bakeries of Barcelona.
This public holiday is celebrated with family, friends and even in schools. It is often accompanied by chestnuts and panellets (traditional marzipan cookies) served with sweet dessert wine. Around the time of this celebration, specialist vendors take to the streets to sell their hot freshly-roasted chestnuts.
The Castanyada (Chestnut Festival) and All Saints Day indicate that summer is over and that colder weather is on the way.

Dinner with stars at Observatori Fabra
Gastronomy and stars once again take a leading role at the Fabra Observatory in Barcelona's summer nights. An original suggestion that combines scientific dissemination and astronomic observation with gastronomy, at one of the most privileged viewpoints of the city of Barcelona.
After enjoying a menu designed specially for the occasion, a 30 minutes scientific dissemination conference will reveal you the mysteries of the universe and will invite you to discover the museum, through the Noucentist room and the telescope, to the large dome, which preserves original elements. From the dome you will be able to observe distant constellations, stars and a large part of the solar system, with a telescope from 1904. This is one of the largest and oldest telescopes still in use in Europe. -
The Mercat de Mercats food fair will take place at Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes on 17, 18 and 19 October 2025, returning with a new edition full of flavour and tradition.
